The first diesel engine, invented by Rudolf Diesel in 1912, was perfectly capable of combusting plant oil, and Rudolf Diesel predicted that plant oil would gain the same importance as fossil fuels. Today's technology and agricultural know how makes plant oil a perfect environmentally friendly alternative to fossil fuels.

Pressing Process

The supplies of oilseed rape are carefully cleaned to remove foreign material that may contaminate the oil, pre-heated to an optimal temperature and introduced to our oil press:

  • Seed pressing is a continuous operation under endless screw action;
  • The oil is collected in a raw oil tank, and later pumped into our holding tanks;
  • The animal feed cake is produced continuously during the pressing, and moved by conveyor to the cake store;
  • Batches of oil are filtered and pumped to our clean oil store for delivery to customers' private storage faciltiies.

Distribution to Customers
Kilkenny Cereals recommends that customers maintain a private store of oil at their own premises for ease of re-fueling. Storage should ensure that:
  • Oil is not exposed to the elements or to strong sunlight;
  • Oil is stored above ground level to facilitate gravity flow from the tank to the vehilce via a fuel hose and valve;
  • Fuel stores of aproximately 1000 lites (1 m3) are suggested.
  • Restocking of storage tanks can be expected every 6 months depending upon distance travelled.
